One More Asphalt Paving Award Deadline Left!
You have until Monday, October 20 to submit your nomination forms in the following regions: Grand, Bay, Metro, Southwest and University. At this writing the Awards Judges are on the road evaluating pavements in the Superior Region then it will be onto the North Region. Will yours be next?

MDOT Employees Honored
The highest honor the Department can bestow is The Director's Award. This annual award is given to those employees that exhibit leadership and exemplary public service. They are nominated by their peers. Of the six honorees, three names stand out as those we have worked closely with over the years:
Randy VanPortfliet, Region Engineer in the Superior Region
Julie VanPortfliet who oversees the bituminous program in the Superior Region
Kathy Reincke, Executive Secretary at C & T.

NAPA Diamond Achievement Application Process Just got Easier
NAPA has launched an online application process. Every step of the process, including submitting all photographs and affidavits, may be completed with this user-friendly method. To complete an online application, log in to the Members Only side of NAPA's new Web site at www.hotmix.org. Click on the Diamond Application button at the top right. The program will lead you through the self-assessment process, step by step. If you have questions, or need assistance, please contact Latasha Stewart at diamond@hotmix.org , or call her at the NAPA office, 888-468-6499. All applications must be complete by October 31st in order to be recognized at NAPA's annual meeting in January.
WMA Conference Registration Is Back Open The Warm Mix Asphalt Conference to be held at the Marriott Nashville Airport has expanded the capacity to accommodate more registrants. Plus, it will be broadcast live via internet feed. For more information click on the link.

Astec Industries Acquires Dillman Equipment
October 1, 2008 Astec Industries announced that they closed the deal on purchasing Dillman Equipment. Dillman Equipment, a leading manufacturer of asphalt plant equipment, will continue operations at their headquarters in Prairie du Chien Wisconsin as a division of Astec, Inc. Both have been long time members of the Association and have been involved in the annual paving conference as exhibitors.

FSU 2009 Training / Certification Courses Scheduled
The Institute for Construction Education and Training at Ferris State University has announced their program offerings for 2009 as follows:
Michigan Bituminous QC/ QA Technician Certification Program
It is mandatory that all persons involved in testing on Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) or Percent Within Limits (PWL) bituminous contracts with Federal Aid be qualified by this program.

Support NCAT and Maybe win this Chopper
The NAPA Associate Member Council has organized a NAPAREF fundraiser to purchase laboratory equipment for the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University, Alabama. A custom made chopper, Smooth Rider, will be raffled off to raise the funds. Smooth Rider made it debut at the recent CONEXPO-CON/AGG Show in Las Vegas. The winning ticket will be drawn March 12, 2009 at the World of Asphalt in Orlando, Florida. Tickets are $100 each.
Since 1986, NCAT has supported the HMA industry through it's world class research and education. This is a great opportunity to return the favor.
